ABSTRACT: Fifty species of native trees were collected from 27 families, 45 genera from Doi Suthep. Twenty-nine species germinated, 11 species from deciduous forest, 16 species from primary evergreen seasonal hardwood forest and other 2 species from deciduous + evergreen forest. Seeds of 9 species responded positively to wet heat treatment (hot water 60-70° C, 20 minutes), 9 species responded positively to dry heat treatment (hot sand 60-70° C, 20 minutes) and other 5 species did not respond to either heat treatments. Germination types were: (1) epigeal-type-A (34% of species), (2) epigeal-type-B 28%, (3) semi-hypogeal 15%, (4) hypogeal 20% and (5) durian 3%. There results of this study can be used to improve sock production for forest restoration projects and increase understanding of seedling development patterns in natural forest.
