This year (2024) FORRU-CMU is delighted to continue the financial support for two research students who are focusing on forest restoration.

Mr. Worapat Somkhanngern (BSc student) focuses on the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in supporting the root systems of seedlings and trees. This study investigates the diversity and distribution of these fungi in three tree species from nurseries in different locations. His research is titled: “Relationship Between Mycorrhizae and Native Tree Seedlings Grown in Forest Restoration Nurseries”.

Worapat SomkhanngernArbuscular mycorrhizal fungus spores were separated from soil and roots from three types of trees grown in nurseries from three locations to classify the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.

Mr. Phapaengmuang Sukkasem (MSc Student) is developing mathematical methodologies to improve LiDAR technology for forest research. This study aims to determine the optimal positioning of LiDAR and cameras censors to ensure comprehensive data collection around trees from the ground level.

Phapaengmuang Sukkasem Tests performed with generated simulation forest data shows the potential of this method to improve the precision of data capture in complex forested terrains.
